North America’s Team Spirit Unable To Capture Victory This Year!

The Provo Golf Ryder Cup, again sponsored by Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, witnessed some great match play golf on route to an International Team repeat victory over The North American Team. In a narrow 4 point result (21.5 to 17.5) The International Team again controls the coveted cup after the two day event which had 52 golfers compete head to head in the popular format. The win increased the International Team’s impressive historic overall lead to 16 vs. 7 as they seem both unfazed and unstoppable in winning nine of the last ten years. Andrea Todd and Grant Noble captained the Internationals who eased into to a slight 7 to 6 first day lead in the Saturday best ball format. North American captains Mike Eddy and Fraser Dods united their team for Sunday’s singles play as their side came out early with excellent results in the first 6 ladies matches before ultimately falling to the Internationals on Sunday by a convincing result of 14.5 to 11.5.

‘International Team Rules Golf Again’

The Provo Golf Club Ryder Cup, sponsored by Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, saw The International Team defeat The North American Team in a resounding 20 to 16 victory over the two day event which had 48 golfers compete head to head in the match play format. The win increased the International Team’s overall lead to 15 vs. 7 in this 22 year popular competition. In fact The International Team seems unstoppable as it has won eight of the last nine years. Steve Ross and Andrea Todd captained the International win by jumping out to a large 8.5 to 3.5 first day lead in the best ball format on Saturday. North American captains Carol Brown and Mike Eddy rallied their team for Sunday’s singles play as their side matched the Internationals point for point over the first 16 matches before winning the day by a narrow 12.5 to 11.5 margin.

This year the Provo Ryder Cup enjoyed some of the best golf witnessed in the history of the matches as both the weather and the course provided the players with great conditions. All four captains did a tremendous job creating a competitive and fun tournament making Turks and Caicos golf and sportsmanship the real winners.

Although the tournament is a true team event it should be noted that the following 11 players played well enough to obtain 2 points by winning both of their matches; John Donatien, Chris Bruno, Graham Malyan, Will Shoreman, Lesley Stevenson, Andrea Todd, Agatha Delancy, Trevor Bromley, Rob Mensen, Mike Flynn, and Michael Goldberg. Many other golfers played outstanding golf as well but captured just less than 2 points which can be the very unusual nature of match play.

The Ryder Cup players and Provo Golf Club would like to thank sponsor Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty for making the weekend a huge success. The Provo Ryder Cup is eagerly anticipated each year and again kicked off with a spirited Wednesday pairings party where the Captains set the stage for all 36 matches over the weekend. The weekend didn’t disappoint with most matches quite close as many ended on the 17th and 18th holes. The one remaining question is yet again; “when will North America break the International Team’s amazing control of the Cup”.

SIXTEEN GRAND FOR EDWARD GARTLAND YOUTH CENTRE

Charity Art Auction

The Edward Gartland Youth Centre, which celebrated five years in the Turk and Caicos Islands, received $16,000 this week, thanks to fundraising efforts by Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s Realty, Gilley’s Enterprises and Amanyara Resort. The funds were raised courtesy of a live art show and auction with work from local artists held at Amanyara recently. “The Edward Gartland Youth Centre provides social and educational programs for the Youths of the Turks and Caicos Islands. It is an incredible organization and we try to do our very best to support it, said Courtney Miller of Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s Realty before making the presentation. Miller said that the art show in support of local artists had been a longstanding dream of the real estate entity, and so it was a dream come true when it joined forces with Gilley’s Enterprises and Amanyara to partner with Roxann (Wake-Forbes), Director of the Edward Youth Centre, to stage the event. In response, Wake-Forbes said that as usual, the funds would be used to buttress the programs that the Youth Centre currently offers. In photo, Miller (right) along with Desmond Williams (second right) of Gilley’s Enterprises and Cindy Nemours of Amanayara (third from right) makes the presentation to Wake-Forbes.

Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty Ryder Cup Golf Matches

Provo Ryder Cup Turks & Caicos

The Provo Golf Club Ryder Cup, sponsored by Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, saw The International Team defeat The North American Team in a convincing 22.5 to 16.5 victory over the two day event which had 52 golfers compete head to head in the match play format. The win increased the International Team’s overall lead to 14 vs. 7 in this 21 year, member coveted, competition. Louis Dickenson and Steve Ross captained the International win by jumping out to a 7 to 6 first day lead in the best ball format on Saturday. North American captains Terry Erskine and Carol Brown rallied their team for Sunday’s singles play as the North American side got off to a steady start by matching the Internationals point for point over the first 10 matches.  With only 16 matches remaining just one point stood between the two sides before the eventual International champions pulled away from North America by winning 10.5 of the last 16 matches to seal the victory.

This year the Provo Ryder Cup was marked by some of the best golf witnessed in the history of the matches. Provo Golf Club was also able to showcase their new Tiff Eagle greens that are now complete over the entire 18 holes. The new greens have been received with rave reviews completing the quality conditioned layout. All four Captains did a fine job creating a competitive but fun atmosphere making golf and sportsmanship the winner.

Although the tournament is a true team event it should be noted that the following 8 players played well enough to obtain 2 points by winning both of their matches; Paul Murray, Jumphol Srinark, John Donatien, Chris Lemire, Bruce Romberg, Trevor Bromley, Steve Ross and Jared Fulton. Many other golfers played exceptional golf as well but were able to capture just less than 2 points which can be the very nature of match play.

A very special, “Thank You” to our sponsor Joe Zahm  of Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty for making the weekend a huge success. The Ryder Cup is eagerly awaited each year as it is the favorite annual members’ event at Provo Golf Club. This year saw a well-attended, spirited Wednesday Night Pairings Party where the Captains set the stage for all 39 matches over the weekend. Assistant Captains, Steve Ross and Carol Brown have already started to put their attention towards next year’s renewal as they take over the reins in 2014.

World Gourmet Affair Gala Raises Nearly $9k for TCI Schools

The World Gourmet Affair ended Saturday with a gala event that not only delighted guests, but set the stage for many more to come.

The impressive weeklong event hosted 480 guests over six nights, a turnout that organizers consider a tremendous success for its first year.

“It shows that the Turks and Caicos community is ready for our Gourmet Affair showcasing the resorts and Turks and Caicos as a gourmet destination,” said Ingo Reckhorn, who helped organize the event. “We (the organizers) are thrilled about this level of support and look forward to making next year’s World Gourmet Affair an even bigger success.”

The World Gourmet Affair began Monday, Jan. 17, with a unique dinner hosted at a different top resort on Providenciales each night of the week. Resorts included the Regent Palms, Amanyara, Point Grace, Gansevoort and the Grace Bay Club. Each invited an international guest chef to prepare a five-course menu that highlighted the culinary mastery available in the TCI.

Residents as well as visitors enjoyed the splendors prepared at the hands of the impressive international chefs based in Europe and the U.S. The chefs who travelled from afar to participate in the World Gourmet Affair included French Chef Christian Ville, Spanish Chef Jordi Pallas, Michelin star Spanish chef Fernando Canales, American/French Chef Bernard Guillas and Belgian chef Eric Crutzen.

The weeklong affair culminated with a gala event Saturday night under the stars, hosted in the beautiful gardens of the Regent Palms resort.

Along with the culinary delights, Turquoise Distribution treated guests to an impressive wine, Champagne, Armagnac, rum and Belgian beer tasting second to none. Java Island was also on hand to serve the perfect cup of coffee to end the meal on a high note.

In addition to the evening’s enjoyable fare, funds were raised to help support several local schools.

“We are proud to be able to donate $8,910 to the schools, which includes, $2,000 from Scotia Private Client Group, a successful silent auction and ticket proceeds from the gala event,” organizer Michel Neutelings told the fp.

In addition, during the course of the week, each of the five guest chefs hosted a cooking lesson for students from several local schools including Maranatha High, the New Age Academy, Wesley Methodist, the Whole Gospel Academy, Clement Howell High as well as from the Community College.

The cooking lessons were made possible thanks to support from the Scotia Private Client Group under the umbrella of their Scotiabank community program “Bright Future.”

After a delicious week , the World Gourmet Affair left guests with a satisfied pallet, but also craving for more next year.
