From backpacks to big smiles, we had the BEST time celebrating with our amazing community. A huge thank you also goes out to all the vendors who participated — your support made this event extra special and ensured the students were ready to kick off the school year in style.

United Way TCI Celebrates Literacy Progress and Academic Success at Summer Camp

United Way Turks and Caicos Islands has wrapped up its 2025 Summer Enrichment Camp, a two‑week programme held from July 7th to 18th that brought together 120 children for a unique mix of education, creativity, and community involvement.

Led by CEO Claudine Ewing, the initiative was designed not only to engage students during the summer months but also to foster meaningful academic and personal growth. Ewing described this year’s camp as “transformative,” noting the noticeable gains made by students, particularly in reading and self‑confidence. “Our goal was not just to provide summer fun but to create opportunities for meaningful growth,” said Ewing. “We witnessed incredible transformations, especially among our young readers who began the camp unsure of themselves and ended it empowered.”

Literacy in Focus
One of the most impactful components of the programme was a targeted reading intervention initiative, designed to support 18 students between the ages of 6 and 9 who were struggling with foundational literacy skills. Using a combination of small-group instruction, games, and literacy-focused activities, the students showed measurable improvement in both fluency and confidence over the course of the camp. This short-term programme mirrors United Way TCI’s longer-term commitment to literacy, delivered through its “Yes I Can Read” intervention programme, which operates throughout the academic year.

Eleven Students, Eleven Success Stories
One of the most emotional highlights came during a recognition ceremony for 11 Grade 6 students who had previously struggled with reading. After enrolling in United Way’s after‑school tutoring programme during Grade 5, all 11 passed their Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) and are now preparing to begin high school. Each student received a certificate and an iPad, presented in the presence of their sponsors. That moment served as a testament to the impact of targeted intervention when combined with community support, consistent instruction, and student resilience.

Donors and Community Support
United Way TCI expressed heartfelt gratitude to the many donors and sponsors who made both the Summer Enrichment Camp and the literacy intervention programme possible. Recognized contributors included Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty Vice President and Director of United Way TCI Nina Siegenthaler, Grant Noble, the Schechter Family Foundation and more. Their support helped provide key resources, engaging activities, and recognition for students who achieved academic breakthroughs.

The camp culminated in a lively celebration featuring cotton candy, ice cream, music, and interactive group activities—marking the end of a summer shaped by growth, discovery, and renewed community spirit.

Looking Ahead
With the success of its literacy work, United Way plans to expand “Yes I Can Read” to more schools in the coming year. The organisation remains dedicated to providing personalized, evidence-based instruction and helping every child in Turks and Caicos reach their full potential. “Reading is the gateway for children that makes all other learning possible,” said Ewing. “We are proud of the progress made and grateful to the community that helped make it happen.”

23rd Annual Jadot Cup Dinner & Golf Tournament Raises Over $30,000 for the Turks & Caicos Health and Wellness Foundation (TCHWF)

 Monday, July 7th, 2025 – The 23rd Annual Jadop Cup Dinner and Golf Tournament marked another successful weekend. 

The weekend commenced on Friday, June 20th, with a dinner hosted by the Wine Cellar. Attendees arrived at the elegant Lua Restaurant & Bar, located at the South Bank Resort, and were greeted with a thoughtfully prepared welcome drink by Paolo Patitucci of Cocktail Perfetto. 

Attendees were treated to a thoughtfully curated five-course meal, each dish perfectly paired with wines from the esteemed Kobrand portfolio. During the evening, talented young artist Bryanca Brown created a live painting to commemorate the night. This original piece, along with other exciting prizes, was auctioned live to raise funds for the impactful work of the TC Health and Wellness Foundation (TCHWF).

On Sunday, June 22nd, the excitement continued with the Jadot Cup Golf Tournament at the Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club. Nineteen teams came together to show their support. After an engaging day on the green, participants gathered at the #19 Bar and Restaurant for a delightful buffet-style dinner and the official announcement of the tournament winners. Congratulations to this year’s first-place team: Mark Fulford, Mervin Cox, Carl Simmons, and Perry Delancy.

Thanks to the generosity of all involved, the weekend successfully raised funds to support critical health education, community outreach programs, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty was thrilled to welcome Lerano Missick to our Grace Bay office, where he spent a week immersing in the world of real estate. During his time with us, Lerano gained basic understanding of the real estate industry in the Turks & Caicos Islands. This experience not only introduced him to the essential framework of our local real estate but also provided him with valuable insights into real estate marketing and industry best practices.

Lerano’s passion for learning was evident throughout the week. He eagerly embraced the opportunity to explore the real estate sector and showed a genuine interest in pursuing this exciting career. Lerano spent time with Richard Sankar, Broker and Director of Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, where they explored our role in key developments like Rock House, The Strand Turks & Caicos, and Southbank. He also learned the ropes of listing luxury properties from our Global Real Estate Agents, including Michael W. Bovell, Lisa Lopes, and Dee Agingu. Also, a big thank you to the team—Simone Rigby, Shanice Williams, Takera Francis-Hanna, Bianca Harvey-Joseph, and Davidson Louis—for making his week a memorable and valuable experience.

Outstanding Performance by Elite Primary School students in the 2025 Track and Field Events

The primary students of Elite High School recently delivered an impressive display of talent and determination in their track and field events on Friday the 5th of April at the Turks and Caicos National Stadium. This annual competition, bringing together primary schools from across the Turks and Caicos Islands, is a highly anticipated sporting event that inspires youth to compete in a variety of disciplines, including the 100m, 400m, relays, long jump, javelin, and more. These young athletes demonstrated not only skill but also sportsmanship and team spirit whist proudly sporting their new TCSIR PE gear.

A huge congratulations goes out to all the teachers, coaches and of course the star athletes who participated and gave their best effort. Each competitor’s performance was a testament to their commitment and passion for the sport. What an incredible show of talent from the entire team!

United Way Turks & Caicos: Desserts With Dr. Seuss 2024 Reading Fair

On December 9th, at the Turks and Caicos National Stadium, United Way Turks & Caicos hosted its annual Reading Fair, a vibrant and inspiring event aimed at fostering a love for literature among young students of the Turks and Caicos Islands. This initiative provided several organizations with a platform to engage with primary school students, highlighting the importance of literacy and championing reading as a fundamental skill for life. Events like the Reading Fair underscore the power of collaboration and community spirit in shaping brighter futures for our youth.

A special shoutout and heartfelt thanks to United Way Turks & Caicos Director, Nina Siegenthaler and the incredible Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty team— Latoya Jones-Harvey, Lisa Lopes, Shanice Williams, Jamie Pollon, Olincia Missick-Robinson and Davidson Louis—for their support and participation.

The Reading Fair also shed light on the ongoing efforts of the “Yes I Can Read” program. This initiative is designed to assist students aged 1 to 12 who are reading below their grade level—often by two or more grades—by providing targeted support to elevate their literacy skills. Programs like these are crucial, as they address foundational gaps and empower children to thrive academically and beyond.

Currently, United Way’s reading programs support several local schools, providing additional teachers to deliver specialized assistance and after-school reading programs. The goal for next year is to expand this outreach by including Ianthe Pratt Primary School, further amplifying the program’s reach and impact.

Volunteers remain the backbone of these initiatives. Their dedication and generosity are essential in ensuring the continued success of the reading programs. On December 3rd, 2024, the United Way Turks and Caicos hosted a heartwarming evening under the enchanting theme “Once Upon a Time.” The event brought together supporters, donors, volunteers, and the students who inspire the organization’s impactful charity work.

The celebration highlighted the transformative “Yes I Can Read” program, which has been a beacon of hope for countless primary school students in the public sector. This program plays a critical role in fostering grade-level reading skills, an essential foundation for mastering other important subjects like Math and Science.

Research shows that students who are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade face significant risks of falling behind academically, with many never fully catching up. The United Way’s mission is clear: ensure every child has the support they need to unlock their full reading potential.

Latoya began her career in real estate in the early 2000’s witnessing the changing landscape of TCI Real Estate with her involvement in pre-construction sales of the many developments on Grace Bay Beach, luxury Villas, commercial properties, and vacant land.

During the economic slowdown in 2007 Latoya took respite off island by accomplishing other goals and then returned home to Providenciales in 2021 as the real estate market was flourishing.
