EDWARD GARTLAND YOUTH CENTRE FUNDRAISER ‘AN EXCLUSIVE EVENING OF ART’ AT AMANYARA RAISES CLOSE TO $40,000

On January 30th 2016, the Edward Gartland Youth Centre in collaboration with Amanyara Resorts, Gilley’s Enterprises, Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty (TCSIR) and Finishing Touch, hosted ‘An Exclusive Evening of Art’. The event raised almost forty thousand dollars with another thirty-five thousand dollars pledged towards the music studio/bandstand project.

The second annual event was hosted at a private villa at the exclusive Amanyara Resort and featured a collection of art work from local and international artists. There were limited tickets available and the event was sold out! The evening included complimentary welcome champagne, canapes, transportation to and from the resort, a live and silent auction and prize giveaways.

Featured international graphic artist and painter, Philippe Dodard, was not able to be present at the event but did send his work to be exhibited in the show which was admired by all who attended.

Upon entry to the event, guests were given bidding paddles for the live auction and a program outlining all of the artist’s biographies so that they could be identified at the event. Over 20 different artists had their work exhibited in the show which included a wide range of different mediums of art from acrylic and oil paintings, photography, wood work, ceramics and digital art. The silent auction was very popular and the live auction proved to be a major success with auctioneer Dudley Berry keeping the bidders entertained and involved as he used his skills to entice the crowd to purchase art and amazing trips including a Napa Valley exclusive wine tour and a stay at the Amanyara Resorts.

A short video was shown during the evening spearheaded by Joe Zahm, TCSIR, dedicated to showcasing the centre’s mission under the theme, “It Ain’t What You Got, It’s What You Do With What You Got”.

Dexter Landy wooed the crowd with his soulful saxophone and steel pans, making the evening truly a night to remember.

There was an individual villa pod dedicated to art from the youth centre members, the Provo Children’s Home and the British West Indies Collegiate, which proved to be a very successful expansion on the previous year’s event.

Director, Roxann Wake-Forbes, commented “I am truly overwhelmed by the support that we received for this event and am delighted to see the community come out and support us as we strive to better the lives of young people on the islands as well as being able to continue to provide them with so many valuable opportunities”.

The Edward Gartland Youth Centre would like to thank all of their sponsors, supporters and the community who came out to support the event and help raise funds for the centre and the building of a music studio/bandstand on the grounds.

SIXTEEN GRAND FOR EDWARD GARTLAND YOUTH CENTRE

Charity Art Auction

The Edward Gartland Youth Centre, which celebrated five years in the Turk and Caicos Islands, received $16,000 this week, thanks to fundraising efforts by Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s Realty, Gilley’s Enterprises and Amanyara Resort. The funds were raised courtesy of a live art show and auction with work from local artists held at Amanyara recently. “The Edward Gartland Youth Centre provides social and educational programs for the Youths of the Turks and Caicos Islands. It is an incredible organization and we try to do our very best to support it, said Courtney Miller of Turks and Caicos Sotheby’s Realty before making the presentation. Miller said that the art show in support of local artists had been a longstanding dream of the real estate entity, and so it was a dream come true when it joined forces with Gilley’s Enterprises and Amanyara to partner with Roxann (Wake-Forbes), Director of the Edward Youth Centre, to stage the event. In response, Wake-Forbes said that as usual, the funds would be used to buttress the programs that the Youth Centre currently offers.
