Building Bridges: Royal Turks & Caicos Police Engage Local Businesses at EPIC Theatre Stakeholders Meeting

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force hosted a Stakeholders Meeting at the Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty brand new EPIC Theatre in Grace Bay yesterday, where members of the Force Executive, led by Commissioner Fitz Bailey, engaged directly with business representatives.

Attendees raised several issues, including traffic violations, police presence, and overall public safety.

Commissioner Bailey said policing relies heavily on collaboration with the public, noting that no organization can tackle crime alone.

He highlighted that, with globalisation, many businesses are adopting target hardening measures and reaffirmed the police’s role as stewards of public safety and key contributors to economic stability.

“When crime is low, investors feel confident,” the Commissioner said, adding that based on statistics from January 1st to October 31st, 2025, there were 43 reported incidents involving tourists. Of these:

  • 18 were offences against the person
  • 23 were property-related crimes where no individual was present, but unattended items were taken away
  • 2 were offences against the State.

“Overall, we have been able to keep tourists safe. When we look at the annual visitor numbers of approximately two (2) million per year, these reports represent approximately 0.00215% of tourists being victims of crime. If we focus only on incidents where a person was likely present, that figure drops to 0.0009%,” Commissioner Bailey said.

Also in attendance were Acting Deputy Commissioner Kendall Grant, Assistant Commissioner Darron Williams, Acting Assistant Commissioner Dwight Gardiner, and Acting Superintendent Kemron Lowhar.

Yesterday’s stakeholder event forms part of Police Week activities, celebrating 226 years of policing in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
